Following speculation about health and safety issues that it was rumoured could result in closure of the Main Stand, the Trust has sought clarification from Croydon Council. Although the Main Stand is wooden additional precautions such as smoke detectors, fire alarms, stewards etc are in place. The last inspection of safety certification was as recent as 19/02/10 and all was in order. There are no perceived issues with health and safety with regard to the Main Stand. The statement below is from Croydon Council’s Safety and Licensing Manager: ‘As far as I am aware there is no basis for this rumour. It is the local authority that deal with fire safety in Selhurst Park. I last saw Kevin Corner, the Stadium Manager on Friday 19th February 2010 when I went through all the safety certification including such things as fire alarm system, fire fighting equipment, emergency lighting, electrical installations, for the premises. This was all in order. Although the main stand is wooden additional precautions e.g. smoke detectors, fire alarms, stewards etc are in place. In the last 5 years that I have been chairing the Safety Advisory Group and for the last 10 years I have been inspecting Selhurst Park, there have never been any issues with regard to health and safety for the main stand.’
